A group assault on a teenage girl in Bristol city centre is being treated as a hate crime by Avon and Somerset Police. The incident took place on Philadelphia Street, near Cabot Circus, on Wednesday evening. Five teenagers have since been arrested in connection with the attack.
Authorities initially arrested three teenagers, aged 13 and 14, on suspicion of various offenses including affray, racially aggravated fear of violence, and grievous bodily harm. Subsequently, a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were arrested on suspicion of affray. All five have been released on bail.
Police are reportedly investigating a potential connection between the assault and online media posts that may have incited violence among school pupils. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that are not considered life-threatening, though she was left deeply distressed. Schools across Bristol have notified parents about the incident and reinforced safety protocols.
