Tony Elias Swaney, 37, was arrested on Wednesday, accused of the shooting death of Bethany Lee Brown. Brown, a mother of three, had been reported missing in April 2022, vanishing on her child's birthday. Her mother recalled sensing something was wrong that day.
Hunters discovered Brown's remains in Alexander County approximately one year ago. Investigators confirmed these remains, identified last month, belonged to Brown and that she had been shot and killed. Her car, pocketbook, and makeup were reportedly still at her home.
Swaney, who had previously denied involvement and offered to take a lie detector test, is now in the Alexander County jail charged with murder. He is being held without bond as authorities continue their investigation into the tragic events.
