In Georgia, a tragic incident has led to murder and cruelty charges against two women following the death of a 4-year-old boy. Cobee Cooks was found unresponsive in a closet at an Atlanta residence during a welfare check initiated by a 911 call. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office determined that Cobee's death was a homicide caused by blunt force trauma, noting extensive injuries including burns, cuts, broken bones, and internal damage.
Jasmaine Smoak, 32, and Jasmine Tyree Jenkins, 30, have been arrested in connection with the child's death. Smoak faces charges including murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children, while Jenkins is charged with murder and cruelty. Authorities indicated Jenkins was a "party to the crime." Cobee and his brother were reportedly in Smoak's care after their mother went to jail.
Smoak fled the scene before police arrived but was later apprehended after her vehicle was traced. Authorities recovered three children from her vehicle, with one requiring hospital treatment for injuries. Family members had previously expressed concerns for the children's safety and attempted to intervene through child protective services and law enforcement.
