Tragedy struck in central Portugal where 13-year-old Alfie Hallet was fatally stabbed inside his home. The alleged assailant, identified as the boy's mother's ex-boyfriend, a 43-year-old man with a criminal past, died at the scene from a gas explosion. Authorities had previously been alerted to domestic violence involving the family.
The mother's ex-partner, previously imprisoned for aggravated homicide after stabbing another man 35 times, is believed to have attacked both Alfie and his mother. After stabbing the boy and seriously injuring the mother, he reportedly caused a gas explosion as police arrived. The injured mother managed to free herself and seek help from neighbors.
This incident occurred in the parish of Casais, Tomar, a case authorities had flagged due to previous domestic violence complaints filed by the boy himself between 2022 and 2023. Tributes have poured in for Alfie, remembered as a cherished young athlete in the local basketball community.
