25 Feb
Summary
- Kidnappers targeted property developer Dimitri Stepanyan's father.
- Dimitri Stepanyan's parents have left Australia for Armenia.
- An elderly man was mistakenly abducted and killed.

An elderly man, Chris Baghsarian, 85, was mistakenly abducted from his North Ryde home on February 13 and later found dead. The kidnappers were reportedly targeting the father of Dimitri Stepanyan, a wealthy property developer, who resided just three houses away.
Unverified texts suggest the kidnappers attempted to secure a $50 million ransom from Stepanyan for his father, only to realize their error. Sources indicate Stepanyan's parents, Varo and Vanush, have left Australia and relocated to Armenia to live on their son's property.
Dimitri Stepanyan, an alleged associate of the Alameddine crime family, has made a fortune in real estate in Armenia. He expressed remorse for Mr. Baghsarian, describing him as a harmless and friendly neighbor for two decades.
Stepanyan, who previously ran the fashion label Proper Streetwear, reportedly left Australia in August 2025. Photos have emerged showing him in luxury attire and in international locations. The individuals responsible for the botched abduction are reportedly facing severe consequences from underworld figures.
Two men were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the kidnapping, with one reportedly wearing a fake designer shirt. Mr. Baghsarian was allegedly harmed during his captivity, including the severing of a finger, before his body was discovered near a golf course.
