16 Feb
Summary
- Accused terrorist appeared in court via videolink from prison.
- He faces 59 charges including murder and attempted murder.
- The court extended suppression orders for injured victims' identities.

Naveed Akram, the individual accused in the Bondi Beach attack, has made his initial court appearance. This appearance occurred via videolink from Goulburn Correctional Centre, marking his first time in court since the December 14 incident.
Akram faces a total of 59 charges. These include grave offenses such as terrorism, 15 counts of murder, and 40 counts of attempted murder. The court also extended existing non-publication orders concerning the identities of victims injured during the attack.
The alleged incident took place at the Chanukah By The Sea event. Court documents suggest Akram and his father had improvised explosive devices, including pipe bombs and a tennis ball bomb, which were reportedly thrown but did not detonate. Akram's father was killed by police during the event, and Akram himself was wounded.
The matter is scheduled to be heard again in March. Further court suppression orders are in place to protect the privacy of survivors, allowing them to decide when, or if, they wish to share their stories publicly.
