Bombay High Court Upholds Rape Conviction of Man Who Sexually Exploited Twin Girls

As of October 4th, 2025, the Bombay High Court has upheld the rape conviction and 20-year sentence of a man who repeatedly raped and sexually exploited two 4-year-old twin girls in Goa in 2019. The high court stated that the prosecution "successfully established beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed repeated acts of sexual assault upon the minor victims."

The division bench, comprising Justices Bharati Dangre and Nivedita Mehta, found the testimonies of the children to be "consistent, trustworthy, and inspire confidence," with no evidence elicited during cross-examination to discredit their accounts. The court held that the explanation for the delay in lodging the initial police complaint has been satisfactorily accounted for, and the absence of medical evidence does not detract from the credibility of the survivors' testimonies.

The man's defense claimed that the mother filed the complaint out of vengeance after he refused to repay a loan, but the children's court rejected this, stating it was highly unlikely the mother would subject her minor daughters to the rigors of a sexual offense trial merely for this reason. The court emphasized that the complainant came from a "rustic background" and it was understandable that she did not immediately lodge a complaint against the perpetrator at the first instance.
