Builder Acquitted: Conspiracy Case Crumbles After 20 Years
4 Aug
Summary
- Court accepted closure report citing no evidence against builder.
- Case involved conspiracy allegations for a redevelopment dispute.
- CID probe revealed potential framing by rival and police.

The Bombay High Court has closed a criminal case filed nearly 20 years ago against Shreepati builder's managing director, Rajendra Chaturvedi. The case, initiated in 2007 amidst a Rs 500 crore redevelopment dispute in Kalachowky, alleged a conspiracy to kill a rival builder.
Investigators found no evidence against Chaturvedi, leading the State CID to file a 'B-Summary' closure report. The High Court agreed with the CID, quashing a magistrate's earlier refusal to accept the report. The investigation uncovered potential links between the rival builder and police officers, suggesting Chaturvedi might have been framed.
Seven police personnel were suspended during the CID probe, including a former Additional Commissioner of Police. Witnesses who initially claimed to have seen the alleged incident later retracted their statements, further weakening the prosecution's case. Chaturvedi had consistently denied the allegations, attributing them to business rivalry.
