Summary
- Avinash Dethe, convicted in a 2014 kidnapping, received bail.
- Dethe spent over 11 years in custody before his release.
- Mastermind Ajit Apraj had previously been granted bail.

The Bombay High Court has granted bail to Avinash Anil Dethe, who was serving a life sentence for his involvement in a 2014 kidnapping-for-ransom incident. Dethe has spent over 11 years in custody since his conviction.
The court's decision, made on December 24, considered that the primary orchestrator of the crime, Ajit Apraj, had already received bail in August 2022. This was partly due to concerns about the procedural validity of the confessional statements used in the trial.
The 2014 case involved the abduction of a three-year-old boy from Malad. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₹81 lakh, which was eventually paid. The child was safely returned shortly after the ransom was delivered.
