Court revokes bail for attacker who caused miscarriage

Bombay High Court on Thursday revoked the bail of businessman Rhythm Goyal, who assaulted a woman leading to her miscarriage. Justice Neela Gokhale directed Goyal to surrender to the trial court within two days, or face arrest.

The 33-year-old woman, who was eight weeks pregnant, challenged the earlier bail granted by the Dindoshi sessions court. The incident occurred when Goyal and his friends, in an inebriated state, boarded the lift with the victim. He allegedly misbehaved, and upon her objection, assaulted her with a laser torch and fists, causing her to lose her child.

Justice Gokhale noted that the trial court overlooked crucial evidence and the severity of the offense. She highlighted that the sections under which Goyal was booked include one punishable with life imprisonment, making bail considerations more stringent. The court emphasized that the gravity of the crime and the manner of its commission must be considered during bail hearings.
