Bokaro Cops Suspended After Lax Probe in Teen Murder Case
12 Apr
Summary
- All 28 police personnel from a station suspended for failing to find a missing teen.
- Skeletal remains of the 18-year-old were found after her ex-boyfriend's arrest.
- Jharkhand High Court's criticism prompted an internal investigation into police misconduct.

In an extraordinary development, all 28 officers at the Pindrajora police station in Bokaro district were suspended on Sunday. The reason cited is their failure to adequately investigate the disappearance of 18-year-old Pushpa Mahto, who went missing in July of the previous year.
Pushpa's skeletal remains were recovered on Saturday following the apprehension of her ex-boyfriend, Dinesh Kumar Mahto, aged 26, who confessed to her murder. He admitted to killing her near Chas college after she pressured him for marriage.
The extensive police action followed sharp criticism from the Jharkhand High Court regarding the unsatisfactory investigation. The SP of Bokaro acknowledged serious lapses and alleged misconduct, suggesting the accused may have been shielded by local police through bribes.
The case gained momentum earlier this year after Pushpa's mother filed an habeas corpus plea. Subsequent hearings and investigations by a special team led to the accused's arrest. The mother has called for the strictest punishment for both the accused and the suspended officers.
