Miners Kidnapped: Body Found in Mexican Mass Grave
7 Feb
Summary
- At least one body matching a missing miner was found in a clandestine grave.
- Family members reported threats from the Chapitos, a Sinaloa cartel faction.
- Over 1,000 troops deployed to search for 10 miners kidnapped late last month.

Mexican authorities confirmed on Friday, February 7, 2026, that a body fitting the profile of one of ten miners abducted from a site in northern Sinaloa state late last month was located in a clandestine grave. The Attorney General's Office is working to confirm the victim's identity and gather evidence from the site near Concordia, approximately 45 km east of Mazatlan.
Some family members of the kidnapped workers, employed at Canada's Vizsla Silver Corp mine, indicated that organized crime groups, specifically the Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa cartel, had issued threats. Security Minister Omar Garcia had previously confirmed the Chapitos' control over the area where the miners disappeared on January 23rd. The mine has remained closed since the abduction.
In response to the escalating situation, the Mexican government dispatched over 1,000 troops, including soldiers and elite marines, over the weekend to intensify the search for the missing miners. Authorities announced the arrest of four suspects in connection with the case on Thursday, February 6, 2026. The motive behind the kidnapping remains undetermined.
