On Wednesday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended a junior engineer and a civic worker employed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). These officials, stationed at the K/West Ward office in Andheri (West), were arrested for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000.
The bakery owner, who filed the complaint, reported being initially asked for Rs 70,000 by the civic worker, on behalf of both himself and the junior engineer. This sum was purportedly to guarantee the bakery's uninterrupted operation and prevent any punitive administrative measures.
Following negotiations facilitated by the junior engineer, the bribe amount was settled at Rs 60,000. The ACB successfully trapped and arrested the civic worker while he was receiving the money. The junior engineer was subsequently taken into custody from his office. During the operation, an additional Rs 2.78 lakh in unaccounted cash was recovered from one of the accused.
