A suspect is still at large following a high-speed chase and subsequent vehicle crash in the Bluffton area early Wednesday morning. The incident began around 1 a.m. when police initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation. The driver initially complied but then sped away, reaching speeds of at least 130 mph.
Officers pursued the vehicle for approximately five miles before abandoning the chase due to the excessive speeds. Shortly after, the suspect's car crashed into a large tree. Upon arrival at the crash site, officers discovered a small quantity of suspected crack cocaine and noted the suspect had fled on foot.
A comprehensive search was conducted by Bluffton police and a Beaufort County bloodhound team within a defined perimeter. Despite these efforts, the suspect, whose identity is known to law enforcement, was not located as of Thursday morning, and the search continues.
