On November 14, 2025, Derek Rucker, a 37-year-old man from Blue Island, Illinois, was sentenced to 7 years in prison for a series of violent attacks that occurred across Chicago and Evanston over the last few weeks.
Rucker pleaded guilty to separate counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated battery in a public place, aggravated battery to a transit employee, and two counts of burglary. The incidents included hitting a 44-year-old woman in the face, causing her to fall to the ground in the 500-block of North State Street in Chicago. He was also charged in connection with other aggravated battery incidents, including an attack on a 40-year-old woman in the 4600-block of North Broadway, a 23-year-old woman in the 1200-block of West Loyola Avenue, an off-duty police officer in the 300-block of Ridge Avenue in Evanston, and a 27-year-old woman in the 900-block of West Belmont Avenue.
