Eight individuals were arrested on Sunday near the Raikal toll plaza in Hyderabad following a joint operation by the police and forest department. The operation led to the seizure of approximately 13 kg of meat, believed to be from a blackbuck, a protected species, along with a weapon and two vehicles. The accused were allegedly in the process of transporting the meat when they were intercepted. This incident has triggered an investigation into a suspected hunting operation, with a case registered under the Wildlife Protection Act and the Arms Act.
Forest officials stated that the accused allegedly hunted the animal in the Narayanpet district earlier on Sunday, outside of reserved forest areas. The seized meat will undergo forensic examination and DNA fingerprinting to confirm the species. The Future City special operations team, along with the Shadnagar zone special operations team, assisted in the successful interception and subsequent investigation, which is ongoing. The suspects are currently being questioned to determine the exact location of the hunt and the methods used for transportation.
