Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar has arrested a police sub-inspector, Rajendra Ram, in connection with a 2020 case involving alleged liquor smuggling and forged vehicle registration. The EOU took over the investigation following a directive from the Patna High Court. The case originated on June 19, 2020, when police in Gopalganj seized an SUV containing approximately 340 litres of liquor. SI Rajendra Ram was the initial investigating officer. It was later discovered that the seized vehicle had a tampered registration plate. Its engine and chassis numbers matched a vehicle previously reported stolen in December 2019. Despite these discrepancies, the vehicle was subsequently auctioned. Earlier arrests in the case include a former clerk and a data entry operator from the district transport office. SI Rajendra Ram was arrested on October 8 and has been remanded to judicial custody.
