Bihar Cops Suspended for Skimming Seized Goods
4 Jan
Summary
- Two police officials suspended for procedural lapses in Vaishali.
- Gold, cash, and other items allegedly not listed in seizure.
- Lack of videography and incomplete seizure list cited.

In Vaishali, Bihar, two police officials, Inspector Santosh Kumar and Sub-Inspector Sumanji Jha, were suspended on January 4, 2026. The suspensions stem from alleged procedural lapses during a raid conducted on December 30, 2025, in Bilanpur village. The officers are accused of not documenting all seized items, including gold ornaments and cash, in the official seizure list.
Further scrutiny revealed that the police failed to conduct videography of the seizure, a critical procedural step. This omission, along with the incomplete seizure documentation, led to an investigation by a team headed by the additional superintendent of police. The findings were then forwarded to the Tirhut range DIG, resulting in the disciplinary action.
This incident is compounded by previous inaction on a case involving fraud and exploitation of a woman from Madhya Pradesh, for which the suspended officers reportedly offered no explanation. SI Sumanji Jha has been sent to the police lines pending further orders.
