20-Year Cold Case Cracked in Big Bear Lake

In Big Bear Lake, a chilling 20-year-old cold case has reached a significant resolution. In October 2020, deputies responded to a home where human remains were found in the crawlspace. The investigation, initially unable to identify the victim or the cause of death, was reignited in 2023 by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Cold Case Homicide Team.
Through renewed efforts, detectives identified the remains as those of 29-year-old Jill Maiorca, who had been reported missing in 2007. Further investigation revealed evidence suggesting Jill was murdered in November 2006. Her former husband, Jeff Maiorca, now 53, was arrested on Monday, September 21, on suspicion of her murder.
