In Bhubaneswar, a tragic incident initially reported as a road accident has been reclassified as a pre-planned murder, resulting in six arrests. The victim, identified as Varun Kumar Rautaray, was allegedly chased and killed using an SUV following a dispute involving a woman.
Varun's friends, Alok Mallik and Balwant alias Godhi, were critically injured and are receiving medical attention. Police investigations revealed a long-standing rivalry between Varun and the prime accused, Suraj Biswakarma, over a woman.
The fatal confrontation occurred on May 29 when an argument erupted at Mahima Juice Centre. Later, Suraj and five associates allegedly pursued Varun and his friends on a motorcycle in a Mahindra Thar SUV.
Near Acharya Harihar College, the accused allegedly rammed the motorcycle with the SUV, fatally injuring Varun. Police quickly apprehended all six suspects by 6 a.m. following the incident, which occurred around 3 a.m.
The arrested individuals include Suraj Biswakarma and the shop owner, Bapuni alias Bramhananda Das. Police have seized the Mahindra Thar and a two-wheeler used in the crime. The case is now being investigated under charges of murder, with further inquiries ongoing.
