A 16-year-old student has become the victim of an elaborate extortion scheme in Bhopal, allegedly orchestrated by an individual she met on Instagram. Over approximately six months, the teenager was pressured into handing over cash and gold bangles valued at Rs 2.5 lakh.
The situation began when the main accused, who befriended the girl about a year ago, claimed he needed money for bail in a criminal case. With the assistance of two associates, including a woman, they allegedly coerced the student into taking money from her home.
As their demands escalated, the girl was compelled to give gold bangles to the woman, who reportedly sold them. The crime was uncovered when the family discovered the missing cash and jewelry, leading the girl to confess her ordeal.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and the Pocso Act, addressing allegations of molestation and extortion. An investigation is ongoing as authorities search for the three accused individuals.
