Tensions ran high in Bhopal on Saturday as a crowd converged on Bairagarh police station, demanding the accused in a child murder case be handed over to them. The 23-year-old suspect, Mobin Khan, was arrested after the body of a 12-year-old girl was found in an abandoned building.
The girl, who collected waste plastic for a living, was reported missing on Thursday evening. Her body was discovered Friday morning, wrapped in a blanket on the third floor of a derelict structure. Police have indicated the accused has confessed to the crime during questioning.
Investigators are currently awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death and whether the girl was sexually assaulted. Further inquiries are underway to establish the motive behind the brutal killing.
Police are appealing for peace and have stated that legal action will proceed once the forensic and post-mortem reports are finalized.
