A developer in Bhopal's Awadhpuri area faces charges for allegedly diverting sewage tank overflow through a concealed pipeline into a borewell. The illegal activity, discovered by resident Divakar Pandey in Astha Vihar Campus Colony, led to groundwater contamination and posed significant health risks.
Pandey's complaints, lodged in July and August of last year (2025), initially yielded no action. However, after persistent follow-ups and a meeting with the BMC commissioner in February this year (2026), a joint inspection by the BMC and MPPCB was conducted.
Officials uncovered the hidden pipeline and confirmed the sewage discharge into the borewell, which has since been sealed. The Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board recommended action against the builder, prompting the BMC to issue a notice and request a police case.
Despite corrective measures, the builder allegedly failed to provide an alternative sewage disposal system, causing overflow and foul odors. A case has now been registered against the developer under the BNS for fouling water, with further investigations ongoing.
