Bhandara police have taken decisive action against organized crime, invoking the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against six distinct gangs by July 2026. This period has seen a dramatic surge in MCOCA cases, with six registered in the last seven months alone, a stark contrast to the preceding years which saw minimal to no such applications.
Among the targeted groups are those with significant ties to Nagpur. One particular gang, known for burglaries, has an extensive record of over a hundred cases spanning Nagpur, Bhandara, and even neighboring states like Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The police also invoked MCOCA against the 'Nandanvan Toli' from Nagpur, involved in the smuggling and peddling of MD (mephedrone).
This proactive approach, spearheaded by SP Noorul Hasan and approved by Special IG Sandip Patil, aims to dismantle criminal networks, seize illicit properties, and ensure lasting peace. Further MCOCA proposals are reportedly in the pipeline as the Bhandara police maintain their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against organized crime syndicates operating in the region.
