On October 18, 2025, a BEST bus driver in Mumbai was booked by the Bandra police for allegedly threatening and endangering the life of a lawyer, Namrata Parekh. The incident occurred at around 9:45 AM when Parekh was driving to her workplace in Fort.
According to the police report, the driver, Nazimuddin Shaikh, 43, was apprehended by patrolling officers for abusing Parekh after damaging her car. Parekh had stopped at a signal in Bandra when the BEST bus came close to her car's left side. Suddenly, Shaikh opened the bus door, which hit Parekh's windscreen and crashed onto the car's bonnet, causing damage.
Despite the driver's fault, he kept arguing with Parekh. She immediately alerted the police at the nearby chowky, and Shaikh was brought to the police station. He was booked under sections 125 (endangering life) and 324 (2) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Shaikh was served a notice and allowed to go, and the matter has been reported to BEST officials.
