The accused, Gagan R, reportedly strangled Jayamma to steal her gold jewellery to settle debts incurred from online gaming. Jayamma was last seen visiting Gagan's home on July 15, during which time his family was absent. Following her disappearance, a missing person report was filed by her son. The investigation took a grim turn when locals discovered a suitcase containing Jayamma's decomposed body in Ramohalli Lake, leading police to Gagan R.
During interrogation, Gagan allegedly confessed to the crime, admitting he sold the stolen jewellery and that his financial struggles from gaming drove him to murder. Authorities are now working to recover the stolen gold. The incident highlights the severe consequences of online gaming addiction and resultant financial distress.
