- The theft was discovered when checking a safe for Deepavali preparations.
- A domestic help employed since 2011 is the primary suspect.
A substantial gold theft, estimated to be worth around Rs 64 lakh, was reported in Bengaluru's Shantinagar area. The incident came to light on October 25, when the wife of the homeowner, Nitin B, 44, opened their safe. She discovered her gold mangalsutra and other valuables were missing. Upon further inspection, the couple realized 17 gold chains, two necklaces, four bangles, and a pair of jumukis were gone from their apartment.
The primary suspects are a domestic help who has been employed by the family since 2011, and her daughter, who sometimes assisted with household chores. Nitin B informed the police that the key to the safe locker was kept in a pouch nearby, and both the family members and the domestic help knew its location. The last time the wife saw the jewelry was on June 5.
Following the discovery, Nitin B filed a complaint on November 3 at the Ashok Nagar police station. He requested legal action against the domestic help and her daughter, and the recovery of the stolen ornaments. A case has been registered under BNS Section 306 for theft by a clerk or servant, and the suspects are currently undergoing questioning.
