A sophisticated murder conspiracy, involving a Rs 30 lakh bounty, has been unraveled by Bengaluru police, transforming a hit-and-run investigation into a cold-blooded crime. The plot was devised in April after Chetan learned his associate, Vijayalakshmi, possessed a significant sum of cash at her residence.
Chetan allegedly informed Manjunath, a known offender, who then recruited Pradeep, a hitman nicknamed 'Chips' due to his fondness for snacks. Pradeep was already facing multiple murder charges. The group opted for a staged accident over a direct home invasion.
On the night of April 20, Rakesh intentionally rammed his motorbike into Vijayalakshmi. Associates of Manja feigned a rescue and transported her to Victoria Hospital. Meanwhile, Pradeep attempted to steal the cash but was apprehended by vigilant neighbors.
Vijayalakshmi succumbed to her injuries on April 27, leading to the upgrade of the case to murder. CCTV footage reviewed by traffic inspector GY Giriraj revealed Rakesh's deliberate actions, confirming it was a planned hit. The subsequent arrests of Rakesh, Ravi, Chetan, and Pradeep closed the conspiracy. Ironically, the mastermind, Manja, passed away from an illness in early May.
