KR Pura MLA BA Basavaraj has been remanded to seven days of police custody following his arrest by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The arrest is in connection with the murder of rowdy-sheeter Biklu Shiva. Basavaraj was produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate after being discharged from Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, where he was treated for heart-related issues.
The CID has taken Basavaraj into custody and commenced interrogation. Doctors confirmed his medical fitness following multiple tests, a report which was presented to the magistrate. The prosecution sought nine days of custody, but the magistrate ordered seven days, directing Basavaraj to be produced in court again on February 21.
Basavaraj's advocate requested special dietary provisions, which the magistrate approved, stating a separate application would be needed for home-cooked food. The CID had previously arrested 18 individuals in connection with Shiva's murder, and with the addition of Basavaraj and advocate Ajit, the total number of arrests has reached 20.
