In Bengaluru, a 22-year-old man, Shekhappa, was arrested last month for allegedly causing the death of his 11-month-old daughter. The tragic incident unfolded on June 9 in Kithaganur, east Bengaluru, during a severe argument with his wife, Vijayalakshmi, fueled by his suspicions of her fidelity.
During the altercation, Shekhappa allegedly kicked the infant and threw her, inflicting critical injuries. The child was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The parents initially reported an accidental fall from a cot, leading police to register an unnatural death case.
However, investigators discovered the injuries were inconsistent with a fall. A post-mortem examination revealed extensive internal damage, excessive bleeding, and respiratory failure, prompting the police to reclassify the death as murder. Both parents have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Shekhappa, a tractor driver from Yadgir district, is in custody, while Vijayalakshmi remains at large.
