Tragedy struck Vijaya Bank Layout recently when two stray dogs, including a four-month-old puppy, died after being poisoned. The incident is reportedly linked to an ongoing dispute between the owners of a chicken shop and a nearby garage concerning waste disposal. Residents who regularly fed the stray dogs, known as Whitey and Brownie, reported that the animals collapsed and were rushed to a veterinary hospital, where they later died. Veterinarians at the hospital indicated that the dogs had been poisoned.
Varsha Anjanappa, a resident and animal lover, filed a police complaint against Tyagaraj, the owner of GEV Broilers chicken shop. She alleges that Tyagaraj intentionally poisoned the dogs by adding rat poison to meat and leaving it outside his establishment. Tyagaraj, when questioned, claimed his intention was to target rats, not the dogs. A criminal case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police are awaiting an autopsy report to proceed further with the investigation.
