A head constable attached to the Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS) in Bengaluru has been suspended following allegations of theft. The officer, Zabeeulla I Godiyal, is accused of stealing Rs 11 lakh in cash, a mobile phone, a gold ring, and an Omega wristwatch. These items were reportedly discovered within a bag in the SUV of a suspect involved in a cybercrime investigation.
The incident unfolded when Zabeeulla and another constable seized the suspect's SUV on November 13 from his Devanahalli apartment, parking it at the city police commissioner's office. However, Zabeeulla allegedly took the bag containing the valuables without informing his colleagues or superiors. This action was later cited in an FIR registered at the Vidhana Soudha police station.
Upon securing anticipatory bail, the suspect met with the police on December 1. While retrieving his SUV, he discovered the bag was missing. After the issue was escalated, Zabeeulla was questioned. He initially claimed to have forgotten to report the bag and returned it, asserting that all contents were present. However, the complaint details his actions as illegal theft.
