A head constable in Bengaluru has been lauded for his bravery after saving a man from a suicide attempt on a railway track in Yelahanka on a recent Monday evening. The incident unfolded when a concerned resident spotted the man on the tracks and alerted emergency services. Head constable Sridhar Murthy arrived within minutes, finding the heavily intoxicated man on the tracks. He immediately intervened, persuading the man to move to safety and subsequently offering him counseling.
The man, identified as Suresh (name changed), revealed his severe financial distress, citing debts of approximately Rs 1 crore stemming from business losses. Compounded by personal issues, including marital separation, he had decided to end his life. The timely intervention proved critical, as a train passed on the same track only five minutes after Suresh was moved to safety. Murthy ensured Suresh was safely reunited with his elder brother.
