A 16-year-old boy was apprehended by Madiwala police on Sunday night, January 5, 2026, for allegedly recording women inside a washroom at Bengaluru's Sandhya Theatre. The incident occurred around 8:45 PM during a movie screening when a woman discovered a mobile phone recording her from an adjacent cubicle. She alerted others, leading to the suspect's capture before police arrived.
Investigators learned the boy had arrived in Bengaluru from Nepal two weeks prior with his parents. He was assisting his cousin, a theatre housekeeping staffer, when he committed the act. His phone was seized, and authorities recovered videos of at least six women. The boy confessed to placing his phone atop a commode to film women in adjacent stalls.
A case has been registered under Section 77 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act. The boy will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board, while police investigate theatre staff for potential negligence. The Labour Department has been notified regarding the theatre management's actions.
