1 Oct
Summary
- Confidential blood donor records were stolen from a Bengaluru hospital.
- Stolen documents contained sensitive details on HIV and other tests.
- Police registered a case for unauthorized entry and data theft.

Sensitive medical records belonging to blood donors were allegedly stolen from the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology's blood bank in Bengaluru. The incident occurred after an unidentified individual reportedly gained unauthorized access to the facility.
Complaints indicate that confidential donor records from May, June, and July were kept in a cupboard in the Transfusion Transmitted Infection (TTI) room. Upon returning the next morning, staff discovered the cupboard open and the documents missing.
The stolen records are understood to contain vital information about donors, including results for HIV, Hepatitis C (HCV), Hepatitis B (HBsAg), and other tests relevant to blood transfusions. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for unauthorized entry and theft of confidential information. Authorities are employing traditional investigative methods due to a lack of CCTV footage in the vicinity.
