Hours after his brother's arrest in Hyderabad, one of the accused in the Rs 7.1-crore Bengaluru ATM van heist surrendered to police, marking the seventh arrest in the case. A police constable, identified as Annappa Naik, has been suspended for his alleged involvement as a mastermind. Investigators have so far recovered Rs 6.3 crore of the stolen cash.
Authorities revealed that the heist was planned over three months, with an abandoned building near Hoskote used to hide the money. Nearly Rs 5.8 crore was discovered in this location. Two broken chests were found in Ramapuram, Andhra Pradesh, raising questions about the whereabouts of the remaining chests and cash. The three identified masterminds include Annappa, Xavier, and Ravi.
Home Minister G Parameshwara reviewed the incident, emphasizing stringent action against any police personnel involved. He commended the swift action that led to the recovery of a significant portion of the stolen funds, stating that the incident brought shame to Bengaluru but swift action mitigated some of the damage.
