A murder investigation has been launched in north Belfast following a man's death from a serious assault. Paul Mackin Jr, aged 44, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening, two days after the initial attack.
The incident took place inside Eithne House on Duncairn Parade on Monday. Police confirmed that a 41-year-old man, who was previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, has now been taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
Earlier arrests of a 40-year-old and a 32-year-old, also on suspicion of attempted murder, have resulted in their release. The 40-year-old was released on bail, while the 32-year-old was released unconditionally.
Detectives have appealed to the public to refrain from speculating about the circumstances of the assault. They stressed that such speculation is distressing for the victim's family and friends and could impede the progress of the investigation.
