Belfast Man Charged in Dunmurry Station Bombing
2 May
Summary
- Man charged with attempted murder and possessing explosives.
- A hijacked car was used to deliver the bomb to the station.
- The bomb detonated as police evacuated the premises.

A 66-year-old man, Kieran Smyth, has been charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder and possessing explosives with intent to endanger life, in connection with a bombing at Dunmurry Police Station. The attack occurred last Saturday when a bomb, placed in a hijacked car, detonated outside the building.
Authorities reported that the device was delivered via a car carjacked by two men who threatened the driver with a pistol. The driver was ordered to deliver the vehicle to the police station within 30 minutes, or the bomb would detonate. The device exploded at 23:15 BST as police officers evacuated the area.
During his appearance via videolink at Lisburn Magistrates' Court, a detective inspector detailed the investigation, linking Smyth to a phone top-up used for the delivery call. While the defense argued insufficient evidence for some charges, the judge found sufficient links to all charges, remanding Smyth into custody.
