21 Feb
Summary
- Wrongly convicted man freed after 38 years due to new DNA evidence.
- Cold case detectives have eliminated 500 potential suspects via DNA testing.
- Reward offered for information leading to the arrest of the real killer.

A cold case investigation into a 1986 murder has seen 500 men eliminated as suspects through DNA testing. Peter Sullivan was wrongly imprisoned for 38 years for the brutal attack on Diane Sindall in Birkenhead before new DNA evidence proved his innocence and led to his release last year. Merseyside Police are actively pursuing leads, having now obtained a full male DNA profile.
Detectives are seeking a man seen arguing with Ms. Sindall shortly before her death. He is described as a white male, early 20s, 5ft 10in with dark, tidy hair, wearing a dark brown leather jacket and jeans. Ms. Sindall was attacked on her way home from her bar job in August 1986. A £20,000 reward from Crimestoppers is available for information that leads to the conviction of the true perpetrator, valid until April.
