A running group in Barrow is confronting a substantial bill of over £1,500 for equipment stolen from a trailer. The Barrow Running Club reported that thieves took hundreds of items, including traffic cones, plastic stakes, signs, banners, and high-visibility jackets. These items are critical for the club's annual charity 10k event, scheduled for Wednesday, 20 May, at Watermead Park. The club stated that the event cannot proceed without replacing the stolen gear, as it is required to comply with England Athletics safety regulations.
The stolen equipment was housed in a repurposed horse trailer, which committee member Ian Paramore described as being "more rust than paint" and of little resale value. The theft occurred between 2 and 4 April from a field off Syston Road in Cossington. Leicestershire Police are currently investigating the incident. The money raised from the annual 10k not only supports the club's operations but also benefits a chosen charity partner. For 2026, the club plans to support Molly's Gift, a Leicestershire charity focused on youth sports engagement.
