In Baramati, a sessions court has handed down a life sentence to Pangya Anandya Bhosale, a 38-year-old casual worker, for the 2020 murder of Yuvraj Abaso Thorat. Thorat was the husband of Jayashri Thorat, the former sarpanch of Songaon village. The court's ruling on December 10, 2025, emphasized the recovery of the murder weapon based on the accused's statement.
Forensic analysis confirmed bloodstains on Bhosale's clothing matched the victim's, while medical evidence revealed the fatal nature of the chest wound. Crucially, four witnesses, including the victim's son and daughter-in-law, identified Bhosale as the stabber, providing a strong basis for the conviction.
The defence attempted to argue for a lesser charge of culpable homicide due to grave and sudden provocation, but the court found no supporting evidence of any misconduct by the deceased. Judge Vijay C Barde concluded that Bhosale intentionally used a knife, rejecting the exceptions to murder and affirming the life sentence.
