A Barabanki court has delivered a life sentence to a woman's parents and brother for their role in a 2018 murder. The conviction relates to the death of the daughter's lover, Dharmraj, in the Ram Sanehi Ghat police station area. The additional sessions judge sentenced Ram Suresh, Shanti Devi, and their son Lavkush to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each.
The case began on July 27, 2018, when Dharmraj was found unconscious in the courtyard of Shanti Devi's home. He later succumbed to his injuries, exhibiting strangulation marks. Dharmraj's father, Sant Ram Rawat, had lodged an FIR, accusing the convicted family of murdering his son because they opposed his relationship with their daughter.
During the trial, the court heard testimony from nine witnesses, including Sant Ram, who stated the murder was premeditated due to the love affair. After reviewing all evidence, including witness accounts and medical reports, the court found the trio guilty and imposed the sentences.
