Banker's False Claims: Jail Term Slashed on Appeal
20 Feb
Summary
- Ex-banker jailed for fabricating sexual harassment claims.
- Appeal judges reduced his 20-month sentence to eight months.
- Judges found no remorse, but misapplied guidelines reduced sentence.

Damilare Ajao, a former employee of Commerzbank in London, had his 20-month prison sentence for contempt of court more than halved by appeal judges. Ajao fabricated sexual harassment and assault claims against his manager, which were dismissed as 'simply false' and 'in large part made up' by an Employment Tribunal in April 2024.
Commerzbank pursued a contempt of court case, leading to Ajao's conviction on 12 counts and an initial 20-month sentence. He only served three days before being bailed pending his appeal.
On Thursday, two Court of Appeal judges reduced his sentence to eight months, acknowledging that sentencing guidelines were misapplied. However, they refused to suspend the term, citing Ajao's lack of remorse and understanding of his wrongdoing.
Ajao was immediately taken to Pentonville Prison to begin serving his reduced sentence.
