- The fraud involved Rs 88,000 siphoned from a police officer.

A 35-year-old private bank employee from Ghaziabad, Irshad Malik, was apprehended on April 10, 2026, in connection with a cyber fraud scheme. He is accused of exploiting his position to open a bank account using forged documents, thereby aiding fraudsters in siphoning money. The scheme came to light following an FIR lodged in October 2023, detailing an unauthorized debit of Rs 88,000 from a police officer's account without consent or OTP authentication. Investigations revealed the funds were channeled through a private bank account opened under a fake firm name using forged identity documents. The account was opened without adequate Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, and subsequent forensic examination confirmed the forged signatures. Malik allegedly conspired with a co-accused, Harjinder alias Harji, who lured him with commissions for facilitating such accounts. He confessed to knowingly opening the account with forged documents and receiving commissions for routing the illicit funds. This account was part of a larger cyber fraud network targeting victims through social media with deceptive investment and job offers. Four co-accused had previously been arrested in this case and are currently out on bail.
