Summary
- Woman charged with writing bad checks to school fundraiser.
- Checks were written from a bank account closed for years.
- Prior fraud conviction noted in North Dakota case.

Kelsey Rae Wastweet, 36, of Gary, Minnesota, has been charged with three felony counts of issuing dishonored checks. The charges stem from checks written to the RaiseRight gift card fundraiser program at Sacred Heart school in East Grand Forks and to Stinger Bat Co. for hockey apparel.
Prosecutors allege the checks were issued from a BankMobile account that had been closed in 2018 due to fraud. Two checks for the school fundraiser in July 2025 totaled $10,746, and a check for hockey apparel in February 2026 was for $1,929.95. An additional online order for the fundraiser was also reported.
Investigators found approximately $80,000 in attempted transactions on the closed account. Wastweet's prior fraud conviction in North Dakota from 2019 for counterfeiting is also noted in the court documents. Each felony count carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
