Cortez R. Nelson-Bey Sr., from St. Louis, has been ordered to appear in Franklin County Circuit Court in March 2026, facing charges for passing thousands of dollars in counterfeit checks. The fraudulent activities occurred in the spring of 2023. Nelson-Bey Sr. began his scheme on March 30, 2023, at a Bank of Washington, where he cashed a fake check for $1,860.53.
Over the subsequent two days, he continued his fraudulent activities, cashing five more counterfeit checks at different Bank of Washington locations. These transactions, all recorded on surveillance and completed using his Missouri ID, amounted to a total theft of $11,147.73. He also attempted to pass bad checks at Peoples Bank and Trust in Cottleville, though the success of those attempts is unclear. The Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged Nelson-Bey Sr. with five counts of accessory to forgery.
