The funeral of a newborn baby, Maria Skopova, who was fatally stabbed 33 times on the day of her birth, took place recently at St Marie's Cathedral. Rev Fr Chris Posluszny, leading the service, characterized it as a significant moment for the family to commence rebuilding their lives after the profound tragedy.
The infant's mother, Andrea Skopova, along with Peter Horvath, Peter Horvath, and Nina Horvathova, face murder charges. A 15-year-old girl is accused of perverting the course of justice in relation to the incident that occurred at a house in Holywell Heights, Sheffield.
During the service, the baby's grandfather, visibly overcome with grief, carried the small white casket into the cathedral. A card beside the casket read, "For Baby Maria. The purest souls never stay too long in this world." The mother, currently remanded, requested to watch the service from prison via YouTube.
Reverend Posluszny, serving the Slovak community and dean of the cathedral, delivered the eulogy in both English and Slovak. He commended the infant to God's mercy, emphasizing her value and the preciousness of her memory, and offered prayers for her eternal peace.
