In a disturbing incident on October 24, 2026, a Georgia mother, Laraven Davis, allegedly attempted to abandon her six-month-old daughter at a Jiffy Lube. Employees grew suspicious when Davis asked them to care for her child permanently, stating, "The paperwork is in the bag. You guys can just have her if I don't make it back." Alarmed, the employees discovered the infant showed signs of neglect, prompting them to call 911.
Approximately 15 minutes later, Davis reportedly returned to the Jiffy Lube, brandishing a knife and demanding her daughter back, claiming "Some stuff just went down. I gotta go." Authorities were on the scene and arrested Davis. The child was medically evaluated and placed with the Division of Family and Children Services. All 50 U.S. states have Safe Haven laws to allow parents to surrender newborns without prosecution.
