13 Jul
Summary
- Police seek custody of two more accused in temple donation theft.
- Accused Ramashankar Mishra allegedly seen hiding cash in footage.
- Subhash Srivastava, counting in-charge, faced no cash recovery.
Ayodhya Police have requested judicial custody remand for two more individuals, Ramashankar Mishra and Subhash Srivastava, in connection with the alleged theft of Ram temple donations. The authorities aim to interrogate the accused further to detail their involvement, piece together the sequence of events, and uncover evidence that cannot be obtained during judicial custody.
Investigators believe questioning is crucial to identify other potential conspirators, trace the movement of stolen funds, and recover any remaining evidence. Ramashankar Mishra faces allegations after CCTV footage appeared to show him hiding cash, from whom Rs 7,32,170, two coins, and a silver toe ring were recovered. Subhash Srivastava, the counting in-charge, had no cash or jewelry found on him, but his role in overseeing the counting process and alleged security lapses is under scrutiny.
Both accused are expected to be questioned about their handling of collected cash, fund movement, and their connections to other arrested individuals. The police also plan to examine their knowledge of financial transactions and any attempts to conceal the stolen money. The court has extended the judicial remand of eight other accused until July 27.
