A career criminal, identified as 55-year-old Larry Barnes, was apprehended in Aurora following a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The incident began early on May 7, 2026, when Flock camera technology alerted officers to the stolen car. Barnes refused to stop, leading officers on a chase through city streets, with speeds reaching 61 mph.
During the pursuit, officers discovered a blind female passenger inside the vehicle who stated she had repeatedly begged Barnes to stop. This revelation resulted in a kidnapping charge added to his offenses. Barnes, described by police as having one of the longest rap sheets they have encountered, was also found with over 30 grams of methamphetamine and crack cocaine.
Barnes faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, motor vehicle theft, possession with intent to distribute, driving under the influence, and felony eluding, in addition to an existing warrant. Aurora police credited their proactive patrols and surveillance technology for ensuring the suspect's capture.
